BIOGRAPHY
Adriana Elian lives and works in Cluj, Romania. She graduated from the Academy of Arts – Painting Department in Cluj in 1991, continuing with a 4 year PhD program in Visual Arts – “Erotic Representations in the European Art” – at the University of Fine Arts in Bucharest.
Her late work deals with deconstructing ideas on canvas and recomposing stories in a subtle way, by means of a delicate dialog between images and mysterious characters who enter the stage. Her works are based on a formula established on nature, and as she likes to say, nature, femininity, grace all together create an atmosphere of mystery, where viewers can experience their own version and get carried on by their dreams.
In 2011 Adriana Elian has been awarded the 1st prize for painting at the IV Biennial of Arad.
Her works are part of the collection of MNAC (Contemporary Art Museum from Bucharest), the Art Museum of Cluj, the Centre Pompidou in Paris and private collections in Germany, Holland, France, USA and South Africa. The artist belongs to the programme Art in Embassies Collection, U.S. Department of State.
