BIOGRAPHY
Adriana Elian lives and works in Cluj, Romania. She graduated from the Academy of Arts – Painting Department in Cluj in 1991 and continued with a 4-year Ph.D. program in Visual Arts titled ‘Erotic Representations in European Art’ at the University of Fine Arts in Bucharest.
Her recent work focuses on deconstructing ideas on canvas and reimagining stories subtly, accomplished through a delicate dialogue between images and the mysterious characters who take the stage. Her works are founded upon a formula rooted in nature. As she often mentions, the combination of nature, femininity, and grace generates an atmosphere of mystery, allowing viewers to experience their interpretations and be carried away by their dreams.
In 2011, Adriana Elian was awarded the 1st prize for painting at the IV Biennial of Arad.
Her creations are included in the collections of MNAC (the Contemporary Art Museum in Bucharest), the Art Museum of Cluj, the Centre Pompidou in Paris, and private collections in Germany, the Netherlands, France, the USA, and South Africa. The artist is also affiliated with the Art in Embassies Collection program, U.S.. Department of State.
