BIOGRAPHY

Andrei Hâncu is a Moldovan artist born in Pyatigorsk, Russia, in 1988. He received his initial education at the Academic Lyceum of Fine Arts “Igor Vieru” in Chișinău, Republic of Moldova, from 2000 to 2008. Later, he pursued studies in graphics at the State University “Ion Creangă” in Chișinău, from which he graduated in 2012. In 2015, he continued his education at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich in Peter Kogler’s class and ultimately graduated in 2022.

Andrei Hâncu’s work is rooted in the physical recreation of digital images sourced from the internet. These images encompass a range of sources, including stock images, cartoon stills, and public-domain clipart. His artistic challenge lies in cultivating a unique artistic identity, wherein he meticulously filters and selects imagery based on his criteria from an extensive pool of available digital visuals spanning various subjects. Subsequently, he transmits digital files containing information regarding materials, dimensions, and thickness to companies equipped with highly specialized online printing technology. Andrei Hâncu himself then undertakes further editing and refinement of certain pieces within his studio.
